Asbestos Surveys
Surveys of buildings for asbestos materials take various forms depending on a client's need and the current use of the building. However, to ensure compliance with the current Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006, Regulation 4, an asbestos building survey should be carried out on all non-domestic buildings and communal areas of domestic buildings. By carrying out an asbestos survey, an asbestos register and risk assessment will be produced to prevent or reduce exposure by highlighting the presence of any asbestos material.
The ultimate aim of a survey is to alert the Duty Holder of the presence of asbestos-containing materials within their properties. There are 2 kinds of asbestos surveys which are outlined in the HSE publication HSG264, “Asbestos: The Survey Guide”
- Management Survey
- Demolition/Refurbishment survey
In all types of survey an Asbestos Register is produced incorporating plans, observation points, accredited certificate of Bulk Analysis (where samples have been taken), photographs and recommendations.
A UKAS Accredited Laboratory MUST undertake analysis of all samples.
All our building surveyors hold the statutory Proficiency Certificate in Building Surveys and Bulk Sampling for Asbestos, P402 qualification. All data is collected using the latest computer technology ensuring that the data is electronically transferred from site direct to our systems, to ensure the client receives a fast turnaround of results/report. The use of this technology also ensures data accuracy and minimises human error.
The client report can be presented in many formats e.g. bound hard copy, electronic pdf, excel spreadsheet, or full working database. MIS Environmental Limited also have their own IT Department so that we can offer bespoke Database Design and implementation to suit the requirements of all of individual clients.
Our P402 qualified surveyors carry out UKAS accredited surveys for our clients in accordance with HSG264. Asbestos surveys are employed to identify asbestos material for management under CAR2006 (Management Surveys) and further intrusive Demolition/Refurbishment surveys are required before demolition or major building alteration work can start.
