CABINET MINISTER MARKS LANDMARK FOR CONSETT COMPANY
A Derwentside based firm, set up in the wake of the closure
of Consett Steel Works marks a landmark this Friday. Government
Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for North West Durham,
Hilary Armstrong will officially open the new headquarters
of M.I.S Environmental Ltd in Leadgate, Consett, County Durham.
MIS
Environmental was founded by three ex-steel works staff in
a small premises on an industrial estate, two miles from where
Consett Iron Company once stood. The company now employs over
50 staff and is committed to a long-term growth strategy.
The company has expanded to locations on Tyneside, York and
Norwich.
MIS
Environmental Ltd specialises in testing metals and asbestos
and in providing solutions to environmental safety issues
including expertise in air quality monitoring, assessment
of ventilation and lighting systems, sick building syndrome
and health and safety audits.
The
new Headquarters, named Eden House, is the result of a £1/4million
investment. The new building is equipped with state of the
art technology and e-Commerce facilities.
Hilary
Armstrong MP said;“I
am very pleased to be opening the new Headquarters for MIS
Environmental. The closure of the British Steel works in the
early eighties was a real trauma for the town and the district.
However The Company did leave behind a legacy of skilled people
committed to reviving the local economy. Companies such as
M.I.S stuck around, built new markets and generated new jobs
for local people.”
Managing
Director, Paul Jackson said “We
have a clear vision for the future and we’re well on
course to continue our growth. Our ideals are to continue
building a successful Derwentside company, promoting the area
to the UK and Europe and providing employment for the local
community.”
