Managing
Director - Paul Jackson
The
Managing Director was a company co-founder and has worked
with the organisation since 1981 – almost 25 years.
He joined the company as a consultant and came with
a wealth of technical skills, having worked at British
Steel and British Shipbuilders as the Technical Manager.
He is a qualified metallurgist and occupational hygienist
and an expert in the field of asbestos monitoring. He
has a sound practical expertise and recognises the wealth
of success that ‘hands on’ experience can
give.

|
The
company has expanded and now has over 60 members of
staff. In 2001 the two original shareholders retired
and he took over as major shareholder and Managing Director.
The company has doubled in size and profit over the
last 4 years since 2001. The Managing Director has a
clear vision on the future of the company. He is a strong
leader. The ethos is that of a strong ‘family’
company working in a PLC professional way, always prepared
for all eventualities including being ready for sale.
Selling the business is not an option; rather it is
a working principle. He is a fair minded person and
has the ability to view a situation from all angles.
He constantly looks to the future. He has high standards
for his staff, but will not ask anyone to do anything
that he himself has not already done. He always participates
in celebration, socialising and team building exercises.
He takes an active part in external training sessions
and conducts his own transfer of knowledge training
session. Currently he is probably the biggest company
asset. He has the personal skills which make him a good
manager and he has learned from his training what works
well and what works best. |

Technical
Director - Alasdair Nairn
He is a dedicated, committed
loyal member of staff and wants the company to develop
and take on more responsibilities. He joined MIS in
1990. He participated in a wide range of occupational
hygiene courses and is now a qualified occupational
hygienist. He holds a diploma in health and safety.
His management training is based on experience gained
as a technical assistant to the Managing Director and
from formal management training sessions. The company’s
Managing Director has had a major influence on his management
style: he leads by example. He has developed and strengthened
his management skills.
|
He
has a good vision of the company and its objectives.
His development continues with in-house training from
the Managing Director, external management training
and special internal target training for taking over
the role of Managing Director within 5 years. He understands
the use of resources and being a people company and
has embraced the new technologies to move the company
on. He has developed the company system and enforced
it. Because the quality of the reports has improved,
he is able to monitor the performance of his staff at
base and in the regional offices much more effectively. There
has been much change in the company over the last 18
months. The Technical Director’s loyalty and dedication
have ensured that all his team members have gradually
accepted these changes and are working to maintain and
improve them under his dedicated leadership. |

Administration
Director - Janine Hunter
The
Administration Director joined the company 21 years
ago as a YTS junior clerk. She has risen to the post
of Administration Director. For the last 18 months she
has had a major input into planning and running the
continuing management development programme. She has
become the company’s systems expert and runs a
very efficient department. She has a natural ability
for IT solutions and has developed software programmes
and data manipulation procedures second to none. Like
all the other management staff, she has attended the
internal and external management training courses. She
has good management skills, which are continually improving.
Her strengths in administration and systems fields have
been a major contribution to growth figures. She has
added a network of support to all regional managers
and thereby greatly eased communication problems. Her
contribution to the company’s growth and success
is priceless. She controls and supports all the administration
staff and monitors the quality of all the released documentation.
She uses the company’s resources well and is a
good team motivator, as she is very approachable and
a senior part of the ‘family’ team. |
