Testing Facilities
A full range of mechanical testing is performed including
tensile testing, impact testing, elevated temperature and
hardness testing. Test can be witnessed by 3rd party inspectors
e.g. Lloyds register, Det Norske Veritas, etc. Certificates
to relevant standards are issued in many formats such as hard
copy, or electronically via pdf/email.

Tensile
Testing
A tensile is the controlled straining of the materialgenerally
to destruction i.e. pulled into two pieces. The properties
determined are generally yield (the point at which the
material will not when unloaded return to its normal
state), proof strength, ultimate tensile strength,
percentage elongation and percentage reduction in area.
These tests are carried out to European, American and
client specifications.
Elevated
Temperature Tensile Testing
An
elevated temperature tensile is the controlled straining
of the material generally to destruction at a control
elevated temperature from +50oC to +999oC. The properties
determined are generally yield (the point at which the
material will not when unloaded return to its normal
state), proof strength, utiltimate tensile strength,
percentage elongation and percentage reduction in area.
These
tests are carried out to European, American and client
specifications.
Metallography
Macro/microscopic
examinations of metallic material area is carried out
by MIS Limited. These include determination of grain
size and percentage ferrite. Photographs up to a Magnification
of x1000 can be produced as part of a permanent record.
Failure investigations
Investigations of all metals and non-metals are undertaken
by MIS Limited. This involves an examination of the
structure and quality of the metal to determine the
cause of failure.
Corrosion testing
Corrosion tests are undertaken to various standards
e.g. ASTM G48 and ASTM A262 to determine the susceptibility
of stainless steel to given corrosive environments.
Weld testing
Weld procedures and weld qualification tests are carried
out to National, International and individual oil company
specifications.

Chemical
Analysis
MIS
Limited have a spectrolab spark emission spectrometer
to carry out chemical analysis of both carbon and stainless
steels.
In addition to the general chemical elements i.e. carbon,
silicon, manganese, chromium, nickel etc, and trace
elements i.e. arsenic, lead, antimony, the spectrolab
is capable of determining nitrogen, boron, calcium and
soluble aluminium on steel samples.
Another advantage of the spectrolab is that because
there is no vacuum chamber, small to medium size components
can be analysed without destroying the component.
All in house chemical analysis is carried out within
24 hours of receiving the sample.
As with all our other services, MIS Limited offers a
fast, efficient and professional chemical analysis service
which will compliment our mechanical testing services.
